How to use the URL Encoder & Decoder
- Choose Encode or Decode.
- Type or paste your text. The result updates as you type.
- When encoding, pick Component for a single value, or Full URL to keep characters like / and ? intact.
Example
Encoding a value for a query string turns spaces, & and ? into percent codes, and non-English text into its UTF-8 bytes.

About this tool
URLs can only contain certain characters, so anything else, such as spaces, & signs or accented letters, is written as a percent sign followed by hex digits. This tool converts text to that form and back.
Good to know
- Component mode escapes almost everything and is right for a value inside a query string. Full URL mode leaves the structure of a web address alone.
- When decoding form data, tick “Treat + as a space”, because forms use + for spaces.
- Text is converted as UTF-8, so emoji and non-English characters work.
