Text Diff Checker

Compare two texts, in a single list or side by side, with changes highlighted. Everything runs in your browser, so your input isn’t uploaded.

How to use the Text Diff Checker

  1. Paste the original text on the left and the changed text on the right, or select Load sample.
  2. Select Compare.
  3. Read the result in a single list or side by side. Use Swap to compare in the other direction.

Example

Compare a short list before and after an edit. “banana” was replaced, and “date” was added at the end. Lines marked − were removed, and lines marked + were added.

Input
Original:
apple
banana
cherry

Changed:
apple
blueberry
cherry
date
Result
  apple
− banana
+ blueberry
  cherry
+ date

About this tool

A diff shows the differences between two versions of a text. This tool compares the two boxes line by line, then lists every line as added, removed or unchanged, with line numbers from both versions. In side-by-side view, the part of each line that changed is highlighted.

Good to know

  • The comparison works on whole lines. In side-by-side view the changed part of each paired line is also highlighted.
  • Line endings (Windows or Unix) and one final newline are ignored.
  • Very large texts are refused with a message rather than freezing your browser.
